The Cyrodiil open zone — Dying
A player kill no longer drops your bag. The killer's reward is selected from the following cases in order, using the fallen character's eligible worn equipment and policies in force.
Player-kill reward order
| Case | Condition | Equipment lost | Gold payment | Policy spent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Eligible uninsured worn piece exists | One randomly selected piece | No additional automatic tenth | None |
| 2 | No eligible uninsured piece, but qualifying worn insurance exists | None | One randomly selected policy's premium pays the killer | That policy |
| 3 | Neither an eligible piece nor a qualifying worn policy can be selected | None | 10% of carried coin plus eligible letters of credit, rounded down | None |
In the last case, carried coin pays first; letters of credit cover only the remaining amount. A gear or policy reward does not also take an extra purse-and-letters tenth. A red villain's policies do not protect their gear.
The killer alone collects the rolled reward through its claim. Coin that would exceed the killer's gold limit is paid as a letter of credit. See Carrying and banking gold for the limit. An uncollected gear claim expires and the held piece returns to its owner. The death notice and map identify the remains; the relevant claim window is 12 minutes.
What stays with you
| Case | Protection |
|---|---|
| Loose equipment and supplies in the bag | No general bag drop on a player kill |
| Bound, quest and other protected items | Excluded from eligible equipment loss |
| Wagon cargo | Protected storage on character death |
| Companion packs and equipment | Protected storage on character death |
| Same killer again within 30 minutes | No further gear, gold or policy loss from that protected repeat kill |
| Ordinary monster, fall or environmental death | No added PvP equipment drop; ordinary death-mode gold rules still apply |
A ship's wreck prize uses a different cargo rule; see Naval PvP. Protected wagon or companion storage does not make a ship's hold immune to a naval boarding claim.
Rise and body timers
| Timer | Duration |
|---|---|
| Earliest manual rise online | 15 seconds after death; served rejoin time counts |
| Body and normal resurrection opportunity | The death's remaining minute |
| Remains and uncollected claim window | 12 minutes |
| Repeat-loss shield against the same killer | 30 minutes |
After a player kill in Cyrodiil Map, the rise route takes you to the nearest suitable town or temple outside the zone. At sea, the zone uses the nearest freeport town instead. A new rise does not give another entry-protection minute.
Before entering, inspect equipment insurance, choose what to wear and keep a route to the streets described in Safe settlements in PvP zones. After a fall, read the stated loss and claim status before assuming another player can take everything you carried.
