Multiplayer Friends and parties Parties
Mentor Mode
Mentor Mode automatically adjusts a stronger player’s combat strength when you are near lower-level members of your party. There is no switch to turn on. Your permanent level, skills and equipment are kept. Use /mentor or the party status to see whether it applies.
When it applies
With one nearby partner, both level requirements must be met.
| Level requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Gap above the partner | 5 levels |
| Your level compared with the partner | 1.5 times their level |
With several partners, the game uses a group reference level weighted toward the lower-level members, rather than choosing only one member.
| Presence rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Outdoors | Party member within 150m |
| Building or dungeon | Party member in the same room |
| Start delay | 3 seconds nearby |
| After a member goes away | Counted for 30 seconds |
| A change during combat | Waits until combat ends, for at most 30 seconds |
| Leave the party | Mentoring ends immediately |
Combat strength
The mentor fights at the group reference level plus 3 levels or plus 25%, whichever adds more, with rounding. Encounter generation uses the reference level plus 1. These are calculated examples for a single partner:
| Your real level | Partner level | Mentored combat level | Encounter level |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 | 10 | 13 | 11 |
| 30 | 20 | 25 | 21 |
| 45 | 30 | 38 | 31 |
| Progression feature | While mentoring |
|---|---|
| Trained skills and attributes | Temporarily reduced |
| Equipment strength | Reduced at the percentage shown by Mentor status |
| Firmament combat stars | Work at reduced strength |
| Specialisation powers | Work at reduced strength |
| Firmament crafting and trade stars | Work at full strength |
| Skills above 100 | Their combat benefits use the reduced skill value |
| Incoming monster damage | Mentoring’s own multiplier is capped at 2× |
| Loot rarity level gate | Uses your real character level |
See The Firmament and Specialisations for the individual bonuses. Other encounter modifiers still apply to incoming damage.
Skill progress
The lower-level player gains 20% more skill-use progress below 100 while a mentor is beside them. This does not speed up mastery above 100.
A mentor can still advance Master Skills. Combat practice is judged against the skill strength used in that fight, while advancement costs use the real skill value. See Master skills for the normal practice requirements.
