Building
Building covers carpentry and masonry. Workbenches make wooden weapons, arrows, furniture and tools; mason's benches produce Cut Stone, Mortar and stone decorations.
Building supplies bows and staves, household furniture, Baskets and materials for guild fortifications. First-time recipe bonuses make it relatively quick to reach Journeyman.
| Wood | Weapon material equivalent |
|---|---|
| Pine | Iron |
| Oak | Steel |
| Cherry | Silver |
| Teak | Elven |
| Mahogany | Mithril |
| Ironwood | Adamantium |
| Ghostwood | Ebony |
Making money
Best fixed-demand silver route: fill funded Cut Stone, Mortar or construction orders. Best tested NPC-gold product: higher-wood Long Bows, especially Ghostwood at rank 70. Furniture and siege work are best made after a buyer or guild has asked for them.
| Rank | Route | Numbers that matter | When to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Cut Stone for orders | 2 Rough Stone normally make 1 Cut Stone; 50 gold per batch | Compare the output offer with selling both raw stones |
| 10 | Mortar | 1 Sulphur + 1 Lead + 5 Rough Stone make 10 Mortar | Batch up to 100 mixes for one fee, only when buyers need the volume |
| 50 | Quarryman or Joiner | Quarryman makes 2 Cut Stone from 2 Rough Stone; Joiner halves furniture planks, rounded up | Choose the perk matching actual stone orders or furniture commissions |
| 60 | Ram Kit for a funded guild request | 40 Oak Planks + 20 Iron Ingots + 4 Bear Hides | A guild writ can offer at most 162 silver; 5% tax leaves 154 before materials and the craft fee |
| 70 | Ghostwood Long Bows | 4 Ghostwood Planks + 1 Resin each | Compare the NPC gold offer with selling rare wood for silver |
A funded guild order at the current Cut Stone price ceiling gives this example:
| Order detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Cut Stone delivered | 100 |
| Price per Cut Stone | 3 silver |
| Tax | 5% |
| Net payment before costs | 285 silver |
| Rough Stone used with Quarryman | 100 |
| Bench fee for the batch | 50 gold |
The guild must post the order and fund it. These figures do not represent an automatic NPC purchase.
Long Bows for NPC gold
Under the same full-condition, Standard-quality, default-settings comparison used in Smithing, with shop quality 10 and Mercantile/Personality 50:
| Rank | Piece | Needs | Example NPC offer (gold) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 55 | Mahogany Long Bow | 4 Mahogany Planks, 1 Resin | 627 |
| 70 | Ironwood Long Bow | 4 Ironwood Planks, 1 Resin | 1,255 |
| 70 | Ghostwood Long Bow | 4 Ghostwood Planks, 1 Resin | 2,511 |
Deduct 50 gold per bow, any sawing fees and the value of logs and Resin from the NPC offer. These additional examples use the same comparison:
| Piece | Planks | Resin | NPC offer (gold) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ghostwood Short Bow | 3 Ghostwood | 1 | 1,255 |
| Pine Staff | — | — | 4 |
The Ghostwood Long Bow makes better use of scarce wood. A Pine Staff sells for less than its craft fee even before material costs.
Joiner reduces furniture plank costs:
| Furniture | Normal planks | With Joiner | Linen Bolts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chair | 2 | 1 | — |
| Large Table | 6 | 3 | — |
| Bed | 8 | 4 | 2 |
Bowyer plus clean planing at Building 50 guarantees Masterwork Pine bows before other modifiers. Furniture and bows need a paying buyer. Arrows cannot be Market-listed; Ram Kits use the guild work system. Building has no daily crafting writ. See Market fees.
