Naval PvP
Naval PvP lets captains damage eligible strangers' ships in open PvP ground. It is a separate hull, wreck and cargo system from character death. General sailing, buying ships, refits and NPC ship fights remain under Ships and Naval combat.
Targets
| Condition | Naval rule |
|---|---|
| Both captains and ships in open PvP ground | Required for a player shot |
| Party member, party-truce partner or member of your player guild | Not an eligible naval foe |
| Target still under entry safe passage | Protected; firing ends the attacker's own passage |
| Ordinary safe-street occupant | Protected |
| Red villain in safe streets | Uses the villain exception |
| Ordinary water outside an open PvP zone | Not player-ship PvP ground |
Take control of your ship and use a vessel with guns; see Taking the helm. The ship's decorative flag and player guild colours identify it; they are not the character's Caps Lock PvP control. Check the peace boundary in Open-sea PvP and distinguish a player's ship from an NPC pirate before firing.
Wreck and cargo prize
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Prize eligibility | Qualifying wreck boarding after player ship combat |
| Cargo selection target | One third of the eligible hold's assessed value |
| Maximum prize pieces | 8 |
| Selection order | Most valuable qualifying pieces first |
| Oversized first piece | Can exceed the one-third target |
| Excluded cargo | Locked or otherwise non-tradeable/protected pieces |
| Prize storage | Held at a freeport |
| Collection deadline | 3 days |
The selection is pieces, not a cash payment of exactly one third of every hold. After the first qualifying piece, further choices must fit the selection's value bound. Collect the prize through the freeport rather than assuming boarding puts every chosen cargo piece straight into your pack.
Character and ship losses
Equipment insurance protects qualifying worn equipment under its own conditions. It does not insure a ship's hold against this wreck-prize selection. Wagon and companion storage protection on character death is also a separate rule.
A character killed at sea uses the current death rules in Dying: no general bag drop, an ordered worn-piece/policy/gold reward and the sea's freeport rise route. Avoid taking a damaged ship farther into hostile water merely because the character's equipment is insured.
