Ship upgrades and captain skills — Upgrade types
Each upgrade type has three shipwright tiers and nine metal tiers. Metal tiers provide half the benefit of a shipwright tier.
| Line | Per tier | All 12 | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hold (cargo) | +20% | +150% | Timber, Iron |
| Rigging (sail speed) | +4% | +30% | Timber, Pitch |
| Hull (hull and canvas) | +10% | +75% | Timber, Pitch, Iron |
| Guns (shot damage) | +8% | +60% | Iron, Pitch |
For a Small Ship, shipwright upgrades cost:
| Shipwright tier | Gold | Quantity of each required material |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 600 | 3 |
| 2 | 1,500 | 6 |
| 3 | 3,500 | 10 |
Hull type changes these costs by the following multiplier:
| Hull | Cost multiplier |
|---|---|
| Rowboat | 0.5× |
| Large Boat | 0.75× |
| Small Ship | 1× |
| Large Galley | 1.75× |
| Carrack | 2.5× |
Metal tiers need a captain level and cost, for a Small Ship:
| Metal | Captain level | Gold |
|---|---|---|
| Steel | 3 | 6,000 |
| Silver | 5 | 9,000 |
| Elven | 8 | 13,000 |
| Dwarven | 11 | 18,000 |
| Mithril | 14 | 24,000 |
| Adamantium | 17 | 32,000 |
| Ebony | 20 | 42,000 |
| Orcish | 24 | 55,000 |
| Daedric | 28 | 70,000 |
Each metal tier also takes 4 to 8 of the metal, as forge ingots or melted plain weapons and plate. Refits resell for half their gold.
