PvP locations
PvP takes place in open zones and in separate refereed venues. Their access and loss rules differ, so check the destination before entering.
Open zones and their history
| Area | Current status | Access | Main reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cyrodiil Map | Active land open zone | Walk or ride across the province's border; qualifying settlement teleports are available | The Cyrodiil open zone |
| The Eltheric Ocean Map beyond Veilhaven Map's peace | Active sea open zone | Cross the Veil Map aboard your ship, then sail beyond the chart's peace area | Open-sea PvP |
| Wrothgarian Mountains Map | Former open zone, retired in favour of Cyrodiil Map | Ordinary regional travel | Getting in |
Cyrodiil Map's lakes, rivers and zone halls belong to its open-zone system. The ocean's depth bands apply across its qualifying waters and island locations outside the peace area. Safe settlements have a red-villain exception; Veilhaven Map's peace is a separate area outside the sea PvP ground.
Separate venues
| Venue | Where to enter | How combat starts | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duels | Inspect another nearby outdoor player | Both players agree | A bounded ring around the challengers |
| Arena PvP and banners | The Arena Herald's Bouts menu |
Rated or casual matchmaking, or the private host's chosen fighters | The bout's own floor and spectators |
| Royal Tourneys | A crown Seat's Seat tab while its Royal Tourney is proclaimed | Contenders challenge one another from their cards | The castle-square ring and weekly ladder |
| Guild sieges | The participating Seat's board and battle entry | Signed rosters at the scheduled start | The separate town battlefield |
A scheduled contested-seat Tourney is a player guild battle over an unheld Charter. A Royal Tourney is a crown's weekly individual duel ladder. Their objectives and rewards are different.
