Dungeon instances
An instance is a private copy of a quest dungeon or quest building, for you and your party only. Instances exist because online dungeons are built at one of three sizes (small, medium or whole), which could cut a quest target off from the entrance.
When you open the door of a dungeon or building your quest names, or Privateer's Hold Map, a popup offers a choice: Public (the shared room), a party member's instance, or Your instance (a private copy).
For a quest in a dungeon that the public world builds smaller, choose Your instance. It appears first at the door because the public version may be missing the rooms containing your quest targets.
Privateer's Hold Map is the exception: online its public room is entered only once, when a new character wakes there. After that its door offers no Public, only an instance of your own, for you and your party.
- Only the owner, their party and staff can enter. A member who leaves the party is turned out.
- An instance works like its public twin, but forgets everything 7 days after it last emptied.
- If your whole party dies, going back in through the door returns you to the same instance.
- Homes and the open zone's halls have no instances.
