Crafting — Quality
Subtract the recipe's required rank from your profession rank to find your margin. These are the base odds before quality steps, specialisations and guild facilities.
| Rank above recipe | Crude | Standard | Fine | Superior | Masterwork |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–9 | 20% | 60% | 20% | 0% | 0% |
| 10–24 | 0% | 50% | 40% | 10% | 0% |
| 25–44 | 0% | 20% | 50% | 28% | 2% |
| 45+ | 0% | 0% | 40% | 52% | 8% |
| Quality | Condition | Weight | Extra benefits | Tool uses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crude | 75% | 100% | None | 37 |
| Standard | 100% | 100% | None | 50 |
| Fine | 115% | 95% | None | 57 |
| Superior | 130% | 90% | Magic bonus roll | 65 |
| Masterwork | 130% | 90% | Rare bonus roll and maker's mark | 65 |
Perfect timing adds one quality step. A matching Weaponsmith, Armoursmith, Bowyer, Tailor or Leatherworker card adds another. Heartwood, a Warforged ingot or Hardened Leather adds one material step between them, not one for each material. Quality stops at Masterwork.
Masterwright adds 5 percentage points to the base Masterwork roll at the anvil; Master Jeweler does the same for jewellery. Those points come out of the lowest quality still in the roll. They are not a 5% multiplier.
Repair Kits roll quality to set their repair ceiling. Arrows, Ram Kits, dishes and refined materials have no quality. Superior and Masterwork share the same condition and weight improvements; Masterwork adds the Rare roll and maker's mark. Ordinary quality rolls stop at Rare equipment. Rank-100 crafters can instead make a Master's work, a separate daily Legendary craft. Aetheric, Artifact and Gilded gear are not ordinary recipe results.
Superior and Masterwork equipment can roll random affixes, including skill bonuses allowed for that item type. Ordinary quality rolls do not let you choose a specific skill. A Master's work lets you choose eligible affixes instead. To add a chosen skill, use Enhances Skill at the item maker. Crafting does not roll weapon techniques such as Leap Strike.
A Smithing-100 character making a rank-90 Daedric weapon uses the 10–24 rank-margin row. Clean heat and Weaponsmith add two quality grades:
| Result | Chance |
|---|---|
| Superior | 50% |
| Masterwork | 50% |
Item-maker enchantment prevents Market listing. Direct trade and NPC sales remain available.
