Knightly Orders
Knightly Orders are ten regional guilds that offer quests, armour gifts and travel benefits. Choose the region where you spend the most time: the orders share their qualifying skills, rank thresholds and quest pool. You can belong to one knightly order at a time; joining another replaces that membership.
Choose an order
The home region determines where a new member receives free inn rooms. The Order of the Cup, Host of the True Horn and the temples’ knightly branches are separate factions; they are not extra joinable orders.
Joining
Visit an order hall in its home region and ask to join. Membership needs reputation of at least 0, one qualifying skill at 22, and a different qualifying skill at 4. These are permanent skill values; temporary bonuses do not satisfy the test. Orders do not offer skill training, so improve these skills through use or another trainer.
| Qualifying skill |
|---|
| Archery |
| Critical Strike |
| Dragonish |
| Etiquette |
| Giantish |
| Long Blade |
| Medical |
Ranks and armour
Ask the hall’s smith for armour. The smith offers 4–7 randomly selected pieces in the material for your current membership rank; you may take one piece. Taking it spends that rank’s gift. Closing the offer without taking a piece leaves the gift available.
| Rank | Title | Reputation | Highest skill | Second skill | Gift material |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Aspirant | 0 | 22 | 4 | Iron |
| 1 | Squire | 10 | 23 | 5 | Steel |
| 2 | Gallant | 20 | 31 | 9 | Silver |
| 3 | Chevalier | 30 | 39 | 13 | Elven |
| 4 | Keeper | 40 | 47 | 17 | Dwarven |
| 5 | Knight Brother / Knight Sister | 50 | 55 | 21 | Mithril |
| 6 | Commander | 60 | 63 | 25 | Adamantium |
| 7 | Marshall | 70 | 71 | 29 | Ebony |
| 8 | Seneschal | 80 | 79 | 33 | Orcish |
| 9 | Paladin | 90 | 87 | 37 | Daedric |
Both qualifying skills must come from the list above. Online, normal promotion stops at rank 7; the rank-8 and rank-9 positions are chapter chairs won through Guild chapters. A chair does not raise the membership rank used for armour gifts and does not grant a house. Offline, promotion can reach rank 9, with at least 28 game days between promotions. See Guild promotion and ranks for probation, daily reputation limits and chapter rules.
Services and benefits
| Benefit | Minimum rank | Where | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Order quests | 0 | Order hall | Offer requirements vary; character level can substitute for rank |
| Armour gift | 0 | Hall smith | Take one piece from the offer, once per current rank |
| Free inn room | 0 | Home region | Room rental only |
| Free inn room | 4 | All regions | Room rental only |
| Free ship passage | 6 | Ship travel | Waives passage fares; does not give you a ship |
| House gift | 9 | Hall seneschal, offline | Once for the membership; a house must be for sale in the region |
Offline, the house gift chooses a house from the region’s sale stock. The limit of three owned houses per region still applies; if the region is full for your character or has no houses for sale, the gift is refused without being spent. Online chapter chairs bring no house. See Homes.
Quest choices and rewards
Member quests use the same pool for every order. A requirement below 10 is met by membership rank or character level, whichever is higher; reputation requirements remain separate. Four non-member jobs are also available. The offered mission is drawn from the eligible pool, so eligibility does not guarantee a particular quest.
| Quest | Requirement | Objective |
|---|---|---|
| Eternal Rest | Rank or level 6+ | Cremate the corpse of a noble's ancestor in a trapped mausoleum; it may be an undead mummy. |
| Invasion from Oblivion | Rank or level 7+ | Close a Daedric invasion by killing every Daedra pouring through a rift in a dungeon. |
| Killing a Giant | Rank or level 4+ | Kill the giant branded with a bear claw in its dungeon den, whatever other giants you meet. |
| More Trouble with Orcs | Rank or level 2+ | Wipe out an orc band in its dungeon and kill its sergeant leader. |
| Retribution | Rank or level 0+ | Find and kill a traitorous nightblade who fled to a remote dungeon, on pain of your honor. |
| Still More Trouble with Orcs | Rank or level 4+ | Kill an orc warlord who has made a dungeon his base of operations. |
| The Army of Undead | Rank or level 8+ | Destroy the lich (and an ancient lich) that rules a dungeon, backed by an undead army. |
| The Artifact | Rank or level 7+ | Follow a witch's clue to one of three legendary artifacts, after helping her with a child's fate. |
| The Crazed Mercenary | Rank or level 1+ | Destroy an orc warlord and his troops who are plotting with renegade mages in a dungeon. |
| The Dragonslayer | Rank or level 7+ | Slay a newly hatched dragonling in its dungeon before word of the egg gets out. |
| The Exorcism | Rank or level 5+ | Exorcise a ghost (and a wraith) from a noble's dungeon holdings so rebuilding can start. |
| The Hunter | Non-member (no rank) | Kill the giant with a burn scar on its back that is raiding peasants from its dungeon den. |
| The Infested House | Non-member (no rank) | Clean a town house of spiders, rats, scorpions and bats within a single day. |
| The Lost Artifact | Rank or level 8+ | A dying seeker's notes point to a lost artifact; search a dungeon, with a lich to face. |
| The Princess | Rank or level 0+ | Rescue a noble lady held in a dungeon by a vampire and bring her safely home. |
| The Traitor | Non-member (no rank) | Slay a nightblade traitor to the knights, hidden in a remote dungeon, before time runs out. |
| Trouble with Orcs | Non-member (no rank) | Break an orc band in its dungeon hideout and make sure its leader dies. |
The Artifact can lead to Auriel’s Bow, Auriel’s Shield or Lord’s Mail. The Lost Artifact can lead to Chrysamere, Necromancer’s Amulet, Staff of Magnus or Warlock’s Ring. These are alternatives within their quests, not a combined reward. Read each quest’s choices before committing to its artifact route.
Most order quests pay no scripted gold: reputation, the armour ladder and the added reward choice can matter more than cash. See Quest rewards and loot for the distinction between scripted rewards, added gear and ordinary dungeon loot.
