Settings — Performance

Start with a lower quality preset if the game runs slowly. Reducing grass, render scale and view distance can also help.

Setting Where What it changes
Quality preset Graphics → Quality Changes several graphics options together. Lower presets improve performance; High is the default. Changing individual options can produce a Custom preset.
Render scale Graphics → Display Draws the world at a lower resolution and scales it up to fit; menus and the HUD stay sharp. Try 75% if the outdoors run slow on a big or high-resolution screen. Retro Picture Mode replaces this while it is on.
Grass Graphics → Plants, trees & wind How much grass grows in the enhanced outdoors. Grass is the heaviest thing outdoors, so try Half first if the game runs slow. The amount takes effect when the world next loads; the style at once.
Land view distance Graphics → View distance & detail How far the land around you is drawn, in map squares: up to 6 with the enhanced outdoors, and up to 4 on the classic UI or with the outdoors off.
Water quality Graphics → Sky, water & weather How detailed the enhanced water is. Full shows what lies under the surface and ripples where things move; Simple is lighter on your machine.
Real windows Graphics → View distance & detail From the street, house windows show the rooms behind them, warmly lit at night; from inside, you can see out through them. Rooms only is lighter on your machine; Off is the classic flat glass.
Players shown at once Gameplay → Other players How many other players are drawn at once, nearest first. Your party, duel opponent and anyone you trade, ride or sail with always show; off in PvP zones, sieges, the Royal Tourney and the Arena.
Spells from strangers Gameplay → Other players Let players outside your party cast healing and protective spells on you.
