Step Objective Optional
1 Guard the sleeping mage in the quest guild hall through the three hours of the trance No
2 Stop the assassins sent to kill the sleeping mage No
3 Survive the bounty hunters the Guild sends after you No

Outcomes

Added gear requires a successful quest payment and a qualifying outcome. Quest mail alone does not count as payment.

Outcome Gold multiplier Gear choice
The assassins are dead, and the sleeping mage passed safely into the Aetherius. 100% Yes
You killed the sleeping mage, and the Guild named you an oath-breaker. No added payment No
The sleeping mage disappeared, and you were meant to be guarding him. No added payment No
Outcome Change type Target Change
You killed the sleeping mage, and the Guild named you an oath-breaker. Faction reputation The Mages Guild -5

With Questlines enabled, these outcomes control the added rewards. Gold multipliers apply only to gold the quest actually pays. A gear choice offers a weapon, armour and jewellery; keep one. See Quest rewards and loot for rarity, payment and online reward rules.

Possible quest foes

Foe Group size
Nightblade 3
Mage 1
Assassin 2
Knight 1
Battlemage 1

These are the script’s possible foe groups, including conditional encounters. They are not all guaranteed to appear together; repeated attacks and ordinary dungeon enemies can add more. Follow a foe’s reference for its combat rules before choosing weapons.

See Quest reference for offer requirements across quests.

Online, a failed outcome does not apply its faction-reputation penalties. Legal-standing changes and choices made during the quest are separate.

Scripted item payments

Item Quantity per payment Selection
Enchanted item (Item enchantment) 1 Random enchanted item

These are item payments made by the quest’s script. The objective or branch still determines which payment you receive. They are separate from the additional fitted gear choice and from ordinary enemy or chest loot.
