Homes — Decorating

Decorating lets you furnish a home, display your belongings and change its exterior. Catalogue decorations cost gold when placed; items you already own and furniture delivered by a shop are free to set down. Their prices and return rules are different.

Start decorating and save the changes

  1. Enter a home you can decorate and select Decorate. It opens the free camera with your character standing still.
  2. Use Tab in the decorating view to browse the catalogue. Search by name, then narrow the catalogue by type, size, storage, lighting or favourites.
  3. Select a piece and place its preview on a surface. Use In this room to find existing pieces; Your things lists eligible carried items and delivered furniture.
  4. Review the displayed gold total and choose Confirm to keep the draft. Discard restores the previous arrangement.

Moving a piece in the draft is not the same as saving it. Wait for the confirmation that the room is kept. If a read fails, retry Confirm; if another session changed the home, discard and reload the current arrangement before making the changes again.

Room tabs move the camera and lists to different rooms in the same interior. They do not give each room another furniture allowance. The free camera still collides with walls and furniture.

Decoration limits

Limit Type Location Allowed value Application
Placed decorations Capacity Home interior 200 pieces Shared across the whole interior, including its separate rooms.
Placed decorations Capacity Guild hall interior 300 pieces A hall has a larger interior allowance.
Placed decorations Capacity Yard 60 pieces Separate from the interior allowance.
All yards in a town Capacity Yard 6,500 pieces Shared by every home's yard in that town. A yard can be under 60 while the town is full.
Hidden built-in furnishings Capacity Home interior / Guild hall interior 200 pieces The record of original furnishings taken out; these can be restored for free.
Decoration scale Placement Home interior / Guild hall interior / Yard 0.25–4 times Ordinary pieces can be resized; decorative people remain at their normal size.
Yard placement height Placement Yard 4 m above ground Limits the saved placement point; it is not a blanket 4 m maximum for every model's top.
Grid spacing Placement Home interior / Guild hall interior / Yard 0.25 m Optional surface snapping while placing.
Free-camera distance Placement Home interior / Guild hall interior / Yard 40 m Measured from where that camera flight started.
Final changes in one Confirm Editing Home interior / Guild hall interior / Yard 64 changes Counts added or changed pieces and removed pieces in the final draft. Confirm smaller batches for a large refit.
Decoration writes Editing Home interior / Guild hall interior / Yard 600 per hour Shared by the account's decoration writes, including batch changes.
Custom piece name Editing Home interior / Guild hall interior / Yard 32 characters Rename a placed piece without changing what it is.

Yard placement must remain inside the home's marked lot and clear of other buildings. Yard decorations cannot hold items, serve as crafting stations or display items from your pack. Outdoor lamps use the town's lighting rather than an indoor custom light setting.

Placement costs and refunds

Action Type Cost Refund

Move or rotate a placed piece Editing 0 gold if its scale stays the same. None.
Enlarge a catalogue piece Editing The increase in its size-based price. None.
Shrink a catalogue piece Editing 0 gold. Half the decrease in its size-based price, rounded down.
Set down an eligible item you own Own item 0 gold. The item comes back whole when taken down.

The catalogue price is 150 gold per metre of the piece's radius, multiplied by its scale, rounded to a whole gold piece and held between 20 and 400 gold. Radius is the model's measured size, not the floor space you estimate by eye. The preview shows the price for the selected model and scale; catalogue beds and chairs do not each have one universal fixed price.

Catalogue price examples

These are source-calculated examples for ordinary catalogue pieces. They are not prices for specific named models or shop furniture.

Measured radius (m) Scale Placement price (gold) Removal refund (gold)
0.1 1 20 10
0.25 1 38 19
0.5 0.5 38 19
0.5 1 75 37
0.5 2 150 75
1 1 150 75
1 2 300 150
1 4 400 200
3 1 400 200

For example, enlarging a 1 m-radius piece from scale 1 to scale 2 raises its price from 150 to 300 gold and costs another 150 gold. Shrinking it back returns 75 gold. Removing the resulting 150-gold piece returns 75 gold. Licences are separate from these calculations.

Furniture Store base values

Furniture Stores sell these 29 delivered furnishings. Base value is the template's default gold value; shop offers can change with trading conditions and haggling. Buying a furnishing delivers it to Your things, without adding its furniture weight to the carried pack. Its later placement costs 0 gold.

Filter by Type or base value to compare purchases. The appearance column describes which catalogue looks the delivered furnishing can use.

Placement controls

Movement, turn, lift and interaction actions follow your current key bindings. The buttons on the decorating bar provide the same placement actions on touch screens.

Control Type Effect
Normal movement actions Camera Fly the camera while the character stays still.
Jump / Crouch Camera Fly up or down.
Run Camera Fly faster.
Turn Left / Turn Right Placement Turn a piece by 15°; hold Shift for 1° steps.
Float Up / Float Down Placement Adjust height by 0.05 m; hold Shift for 0.01 m steps.
Minus / Equals Placement Decrease or increase ordinary piece scale by a factor of 1.1 per step.
Slash Placement Toggle the 0.25 m placement grid.
Interact or Place Placement Set the current preview down.

On a visible interaction plaque, use the action list for Move, Duplicate, Rename, Who may use or Remove. In this room offers the same management actions. When that plaque is not shown, pressing a placed piece while decorating selects Move.

Useful furnishings and placement rules

Furnishing Type Location Use Important condition
Bed Rest Interior Opens the bed rest flow. Must remain a bed, without storage or a station assigned; normal ownership and tenancy rules still apply.
Campfire, fire bowl or fireplace Fire Interior Provides the hearth's warmth, drying, rest and cooking interactions. Must not be a storage piece or a different station.
Cooking station Crafting Interior Opens The Fire in Stores where available; also acts as a hearth. Requires its station licence.
Storage piece Storage Interior Holds belongings for the owner and permitted users. Empty it before removing it or turning storage off.
Weapon, shield or armour you own Display Interior Hangs as a wall display and can be taken down intact. Must be eligible and unworn; arrows are not mounted as weapons.
Mounted Trophy Display Interior Hangs on its trophy plaque. Uses the actual trophy item.
Catalogue door Rooms Interior Fits a free doorway and can divide the detected rooms. Fits doorways rather than arbitrary floor positions; it cannot become storage, a light or a station.
Decorative person Display Interior / Yard Stands as a decorative figure. Cannot be resized. A figure is not a trader until licensed as one indoors.
Trees, plants and street pieces Display Yard Furnish the outside lot. The catalogue shows outdoor pieces for the current yard and climate.

Items worn, summoned, bound to the pack, or kept back by the game do not appear as ordinary placeable belongings. The spellbook, letters of credit and house or ship deeds are kept back. An owned item used as a display cannot also be a storage container or a licensed station.

To change the outside of an online home, choose its exterior appearance controls. Walls and windows have separate style sets; roof and door have their own climate and style choices. Select The town's own to restore a part's original appearance. This changes the building's finish rather than moving its walls or increasing the yard.

See Home stations for licences and Renting rooms before moving doors around rooms already offered to tenants.
