Trading with players
Players can trade items and gold through a direct trade window or sell through the Market and hired traders. Choose the route by its currency, fees and delivery requirements.
Choose a trading route
| Route | Currency | Where the exchange happens | Seller fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct player trade | Gold or eligible items | Both players together, within 5 m | No Market listing fee or sale tax |
| Notice Board Market | Silver or gold | Any town notice board; listings are Bay-wide | See Market fees |
| Market buy order | Silver | Market → Orders | 5% sale tax; distant fills also pay courier costs |
| Hired trader | Gold | The trader inside the seller's home | 1% sale fee and 5% tax; separate trader licence |
| NPC shop | Gold | A shop that buys that item group | No Market fee; compare the counter offer |
Make a direct trade
- Stand within 5 m of the other player in the same room or place. Press F on the player and choose Trade.
- The other player has 30 seconds to accept the invitation.
- Add eligible items from your pack and enter any gold in the gold box. Check the item, quantity, condition and enchantments on both sides.
- Both players choose Lock, then both choose Confirm. A change to either offer unlocks both sides, so review the new offer before locking again.
- Wait for completion before leaving. If a message says the versions differ, both players must reload before trying again.
| Direct-trade limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Item entries | 16 per side; a stack is one entry |
| Gold offered | Up to 1,000,000,000 per side, limited by available carried gold |
| Invitation response | 30 real seconds |
| Distance | Within 5 m |
| Receiver capacity | The received goods must fit within carrying capacity |
The gold box offers carried coins. Withdraw bank gold or cash a letter of credit first if you need more coins. A direct trade does not have a silver-payment field.
Items that cannot be offered
| Item condition | What to do |
|---|---|
| Equipped | Unequip it first |
| Quest item | Keep it for the quest |
| Bound item | Cannot be passed to another player; includes Sigil Broker goods and Portal Stones |
| Summoned item | Cannot be traded |
| Boat deed or boat parts | Cannot be traded |
| Materials Bag | The bag stays with its owner |
| Loaded active wagon | Empty the wagon before transferring it |
| Gold-pieces item | Use the gold box |
Market listing has extra restrictions. Ordinary loot from your pack lists in Goods for gold; recognised materials list from Stores. An unenchanted Masterwork may be auctioned, while an enchanted Masterwork cannot be listed on the Market. See Market for the full route comparison.
Find a buyer and agree a price
Use /join trade to join the Trade channel. State the item, quantity, condition, important bonuses, asking currency and meeting place. Letters can arrange a sale with an offline player, but player letters carry text rather than items or payment. Developer gifts in the post box are a separate feature.
Check Market Orders for funded demand and History for completed sales. Compare the same currency and item variant; an unsold asking price is not evidence that buyers pay it. For crafted goods, subtract materials, station charges and selling fees before treating the proceeds as profit.
Mercantile and Personality affect NPC counter prices, not another player's negotiated asking price or the Market's fixed fee percentages. Mercantile lists trainers and explains how to practice the skill.
