Resting and camping online

Offline, choose how long to rest with the hour dial; see Resting and death. Online:

  • How: face a lit fire, tent or bed and press Rest (or R). Hold still for 6 seconds (10 on a bedroll). Moving more than 1 m, taking a blow, seeing an enemy or opening a window breaks it.
  • A night moves your own clock 480 minutes at once: effects age, health, magicka and fatigue refill, and an ambush is rolled once.
  • Short rest: a second rest within 120 lived minutes (10 real minutes) heals but passes no time.
  • Where: beds in rented rooms, homes, ships, guild halls and dungeons (a bed indoors is never ambushed); campfires, tents and braziers; and every dungeon's 2 to 7 permanent fires, which keep wandering enemies out of a 15 m ring.
  • Parties: members within 15 m who keep Rest with my party on share the night and roll the ambush once.

Camping in town streets is illegal. Use an inn bed or your own home, or camp outside the settlement.

Every new online character starts with a campfire (fuel for 8 nights, 3 kg). Firewood adds 3 charges, and only the owner can relight or pick it up. Placed on a ship's deck, it sails with her.

Other supplies: Bedroll (10 nights), Ember Jar (a one-night fire), Restorative Tonic (+40% fatigue), Meditation Candle (+50% magicka), Waking Salts (an hour awake) and Sleeping Draught (a rough night sleeps like a bed).
