Mining — Striking a vein

Veins and boulders never stand inside a town, so head out into the country. You can mine at any hour, but not with enemies close by, not while fully encumbered and not at sea. Indoors, only dungeon veins can be worked.

Property Appearance Range
Compass Copper marker 150 m
World Star-shaped glints; veins at the base of rocks —
Overworld Copper diamonds such as Mining ×6 for unworked nodes Up to 3 km

Press O on the held map to open the Overworld.

Face the vein or boulder and press Interact (E). The prompt names the work, shows your rank and warns when the required rank is higher.

Action Result
Press attack Swing at the rock
Hit the glinting point Two strike points
Hit elsewhere One strike point
Hit every glint Clean vein; +50% XP
Press Esc Stop without loss

One of five rock-face points glints at a time. The glint moves after a strike or after a short wait.

Ore group Strike points needed
Common 4
Middling 5
Rare metals 7

A clean Iron vein takes two swings.

Resource Ordinary yield Clean result
Vein 2–3 ore Small gem chance on each glint hit; at most 1 gem per vein
Boulder 3–5 Rough Stone Half as many Cut Stone; fractional pieces rolled as a chance

If you need Rough Stone for Mortar, avoid a fully clean quarrying result. In every gathering profession, about one harvest in ten also gives a few silver, up to 30 silver per account daily.

Enable Gentle work on the Professions page (Down arrow online) to skip timing activities in every gathering profession. Harvests give ordinary results without clean bonuses; Mining also gives no gems in this mode.
