Logging
Logging supplies logs, Resin and Heartwood. Use a Wood-Axe on trees outside settlements. Wood is used in Building, toolmaking and guild construction.
| Profession | Wood products used | Products made |
|---|---|---|
| Carpentry | Planks | Staves, bows, arrows, furniture and beds |
| Smithing | Charcoal and planks | Steel, tools and fittings |
| Jewelcrafting | 2 Ironwood or Ghostwood Planks | Wand |
| Building | 40 Oak Planks, plus Iron Ingots and Bear Hides | Ram Kit |
A log normally produces two planks. Wood type determines a bow or staff’s material equivalent, so Logging pairs well with Building.
Making money
Best starting route: deliver suitable raw-log Court writs, then sell logs or planks against actual orders. Best volume perk: Timberwright at Logging 100 gives three planks per log. Charcoal Burner is the alternative when confirmed Charcoal demand pays better.
| Rank | Route | Useful numbers | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Raw logs and Court writs | A posted 50-Pine writ pays 60 silver | Keep logs unsawn until you have checked Work |
| 10 | Oak supply | A posted 40-Oak writ pays 96 silver | Bows, furniture and Ram Kits compete for the same Oak |
| 70 | Ironwood and Ghostwood | A posted 20-log tier-6 writ pays 336 silver | Ironwood is in Rainforest; Ghostwood in Haunted Woodlands, on witnessed ground |
| 100 | Refine for confirmed buyers | 100 logs make 300 planks with Timberwright, or 200 Charcoal with Charcoal Burner | A normal saw makes 200 planks; a normal burn 100 Charcoal; each batch costs 50 gold at a shop |
Use dense woods to reduce walking. The Jungle of Bantha has 48 trees per map square, four times ordinary Woodlands or Rainforest density. On unwitnessed jungle all are Pine. Witnessed Rainforest supplies higher woods; Haunted Woodlands is the Ghostwood choice. The rare-wood roll is about 1 tree in 20, so density is useful without guaranteeing a rare tree.
| Material | Chance | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Heartwood | 2% per Clean Cut; 4% with Forester | Witnessed ground |
| Resin | 25% per tree | — |
Clean Cuts reduce swings without adding ordinary logs. Sell Heartwood separately or use it for a customer who values its quality bonus. Neither by-product is guaranteed on each tree.
| Condition | Output per log |
|---|---|
| Saw normally | 2 planks |
| Saw with Timberwright | 3 planks |
Compare those outputs’ net sale value with the log’s net price. Charcoal yield does not improve with wood tier, so use inexpensive suitable logs.
| Material | Price per item (silver) |
|---|---|
| Pine Plank | 2 |
| Charcoal | 2 |
| Oak Plank | 4 |
Player-made stock competes with these prices. Processing does not guarantee a higher return.
For a gold-focused partnership, Ghostwood can become Building's Long Bows at rank 70. For silver, keep enough logs for the better posted writ or player order instead of converting the whole bag. Use Market fees, and include tool replacement and the time needed to carry a full load.
