Herbalism
Herbalism supplies herbs and wild food. Common herbs can be picked by hand. A Sickle is required for uncommon and rare herbs, and a Basket collects fruit, mushrooms and eggs.
| Profession | Material | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Provisioning | Herbs | Ingredients for most of the 20 potion recipes |
| Cooking | Root Bulb | Hunter’s Stew |
| Cooking | Green Leaves | Fisherman’s Supper |
| Cooking | Yellow Berries | Orchard Tart |
| Cooking | Basket food | Cooking ingredients |
| Outfitting | 2 Root Tendrils | 1 Linen Bolt |
| Fletching | 4 Twigs, 1 Pine Plank, 1 Iron Ingot | 20 arrows |
Each herb picked unbruised with a Sickle increases a brew’s Potent chance.
Making money
Best dependable silver: fill useful Court herb writs, then supply herbs named in live buy orders. Common herbs can be a better route than chasing rare patches when they are dense, quick to pick and wanted by crafters.
| Rank | Route | Why it works | Requirements | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Swamp Root Tendrils and common recipe herbs | Swamps and Rainforest have 10 patches per map square; common picks take 0.8 s. Two same-land Root Tendrils weave one Linen Bolt | — | Find a buyer before stockpiling |
| 10 | Uncommon potion herbs | Ginkgo Leaves, berries and roses supply potion recipes | A Sickle and an unbruised 2.5 s pick avoid losing a unit | — |
| 25 | Rare-herb writs and orders | A posted 30-Golden-Poppy writ pays 180 silver; 30 Red Poppies pay 72. White Rose, Golden Poppy and White Poppy have reference value 5; some locally rare herbs have value 2 | — | — |
| 50 | Gardener for commodity volume | Common yield rises from 1–3 to 2–4 before other modifiers. Average base yield rises from 2 to 3 | — | Botanist instead helps you avoid bruising valuable picks |
Gather the ingredients people actually need: Root Tendrils for Linen, Aloe and Ginkgo Leaves for Stamina, and berries, roses or other herbs for the requested potion or dish. Keep northern and southern stacks separate. A crafter cannot weave one northern and one southern Root Tendril into a bolt.
The Basket gathers Apples or Oranges, Mushrooms and Eggs without consuming a patch’s herb harvest. Sell the food to cooks or use it for cooking writs and Feasts; Court writs do not request it.
Food yield continues after Basket XP falls at rank 40. Compare sale value and time spent rather than judging a food run by XP alone.
Unbruised-herb potency credit belongs to the character who picked it. Buying that herb does not transfer the picker's clean-herb count to the buyer. Keep clean herbs for your own Cooking and alchemy rather than pricing an ordinary traded stack as a guaranteed Potent ingredient.
At Master, Seasonal Eye can fill genuine winter orders at half yield; Apothecary's Friend instead supports reliable clean picking and your own brewing. Choose from actual demand before paying to respec. Check Work before refining herbs into cloth, and use Market fees, not the material reference value, when deciding between herbs and bolts.
