Enchanting

Enchanting provides Arcane Essence, reforging and discounts at the item maker. Disenchant crafted equipment to gain Essence and profession experience. This destroys the piece and yields materials, without extracting its bonuses for another item. At rank 50, use Essence to replace a bonus on Magic or Rare equipment.

Enchanting advances through disenchanting, without first-time recipe bonuses or daily crafting writs. Pair it with a craft that makes equipment to dismantle, particularly jewellery.

Making money

Best repeatable silver direction: turn low-cost eligible crafted pieces into Essence for confirmed buy orders. Pairing with Smithing lets you make plain Silver Rings from one raw Silver each. Disenchanter at rank 50 doubles the product you can sell; Efficient instead saves gold on your own item-maker work.

Piece Craft inputs Essence With Disenchanter
Silver Ring 1 raw Silver 18 36
Gold Ring 1 raw Gold 19 38
Platinum Ring 1 raw Platinum 21 42
Silver Jade Amulet 2 raw Silver, 1 plain Jade 25 50
Linen Plain Robes 3 Linen Bolts 7 14

Compare both material use and shop fees:

Batch Raw Silver Gems Essence With Disenchanter Crafts Disenchants Shop fees (gold)
2 plain Silver Rings 2 0 36 72 2 2 200
1 Silver Jade Amulet 2 1 plain Jade 25 50 1 1 100
Silver Ring Enchantment points Essence With Disenchanter
Plain — 18 36
With Goldsmith 1,980 19 38
With a normal plain gem — 19 38

Goldsmith needs no extra metal or gem. Use a gem only when the extra Essence covers its cost. Higher-tier jewellery may give more XP without giving the best return per input.

Work backward from a buyer

Check a current Essence order before buying Silver or crafted gear. Budget the raw Silver as well as these shop costs for one plain Silver Ring:

Step Cost (gold) Essence output with Disenchanter
Craft 50 —
Disenchanting 50 36

A 100-silver batch sale returns 95 through an untithed buy order or 94 through your own listing. Apply the actual batch offer to all 36 units; reference values do not guarantee a sale.

Bought crafted gear can supply Essence when its purchase and courier costs are below the net Essence sale value. Buying it gives no Enchanting first-time bonus.

Condition Restriction to check
Gold-bought or looted May restrict silver trading of the product and its Essence
Silver-bought cloth only Can yield Essence but no Enchanting XP

Disenchanting higher-quality pieces does not add Essence for the random bonuses or the item-maker powers attached to them. Sell a useful Masterwork to a player when its net offer beats its Essence. Reforging consumes Essence and has no guaranteed resale premium; enchant or reforge for a buyer or for your own equipment. An item-maker-enchanted Masterwork cannot be Market-listed.

A 200,000-gold home enchanting-station licence needs 4,000 uses to recover its price from the 50-gold use-fee saving alone; travel convenience is separate. Start with the guild station unless your volume justifies that investment. Follow Market fees.
