Gold, silver and banks — Loans
A bank loan credits borrowed gold to your bank account. The debt includes a one-time interest charge as soon as you borrow; repaying early does not reduce that charge.
| Rule | Online | Offline |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum loan | 100 gold | 100 gold |
| Unmodified borrowing limit | 5,000 gold per character level | 50,000 gold per character level |
| Outstanding loans | One per character across all branches | One per region |
| Interest charge | 10% when borrowed | 10% when borrowed |
| Repayment term | One game year on the character's own clock | One game year |
Roleplay & Realism's loan setting can change the per-level limit. Online borrowing uses one tenth of that setting's offline limit. Check the bank's displayed maximum before borrowing.
Interest is rounded down to whole gold and does not accrue further or compound. Calculated examples:
| Gold borrowed | Initial debt (gold) |
|---|---|
| 1,000 | 1,100 |
| 5,000 | 5,500 |
Repayment and default
Use Repay loan at a bank in the lending region to make a partial or full payment. Repayment can use carried coins, letters of credit and the bank balance. The bank shows the amount owed and the time remaining.
| Event | Result |
|---|---|
| Loan becomes overdue | The bank first takes available deposited gold toward repayment. |
| Online debt remains after deposited gold is taken | The loan defaults; new borrowing is refused at every branch. |
| Gold or letters deposited after an online default | The deposit pays defaulted debt first, up to the amount still owed. |
| First default on a loan | Records the loan-default crime and its reputation penalty in the lending region. |
A default does not stop ordinary deposits and withdrawals. It can leave less money available because the bank takes deposits toward the unpaid debt.
