Resting and death

Resting restores health, fatigue and magicka and applies practiced skill increases. Death rules differ between online characters and offline family modes.

Resting offline

Rest for a chosen number of hours, until healed, or wait without sleeping. Medical and Rapid Healing improve health recovery; fatigue and spell points recover each hour.

Beds, rented rooms, owned homes, ships and Fighters Guild halls provide resting places. You can also rest outdoors or in a dungeon if no enemies are nearby. Swimming and being airborne prevent rest.

See Survival for online resting at fires, tents and beds.

Death online

After a short countdown, respawn at a nearby temple, town or graveyard with half health. Death in a dungeon returns you outside its entrance.

Normal death costs 10% of carried gold; banked money is protected. The death screen shows the amount. A party member can use Resurrect to revive you where you fell and avoid the normal gold loss. Event encounters can allow 60 seconds for revival.

Deaths to players in the Wrothgarian Mountains or open Eltheric Ocean Map follow different loot and respawn rules. Check those articles before entering.
