Weather

Weather changes across Tamriel Map. With Weather as places, fronts and storms move over the land with the wind. This feature is enabled online; it is an option in Features offline. Players at the same place and shared time see the same weather.

Conditions

Weather Conditions
Sunny Clear conditions
Cloudy Cloud cover without falling rain or snow
Overcast An overcast deck
Fog Fog banks that reduce visibility
Rain Rain fronts; local air temperature determines the precipitation
Thunder Storm cells within rain fronts

Sandstorms Wind-blown sand over desert country
Ashfall Volcanic ash in Morrowind Map

Forecast and travel

The Overworld view shows the forecast. A moving rain front can have cloudy and overcast edges, with storm cells within the rain. Fog favours the hours before dawn; summer thunderstorms favour the afternoon. Weather continues to advance while you rest. See Weather fronts for system durations.

Rain, sleet and snow

The air at your location determines what falls. Season, hour, altitude, nearby sea and the weather system affect temperature. Climate transitions blend rather than changing abruptly at a map edge.

Air temperature Precipitation
At or below 0 °C Snow
Above 0 °C and below 2.5 °C A mixture of rain and snow
At or above 2.5 °C Rain

High peaks Map can keep snow in warm seasons. Rainforest and swamp lowlands can remain wet and green in winter. Red Mountain Map stays warm and does not retain snow. See Snowfall for accumulating snow and Survival for temperature and wetness.

Classic weather rolls

Without moving weather systems, weather is rolled for each climate zone daily, with a 12% chance to change each hour. The seven ordinary weather references give the initial seasonal roll tables. Those percentages describe classic rolls; they do not give the chance of rain or snow at your feet with moving systems. The moving system adjusts rain and thunder coverage, and local temperature determines their precipitation.

See Climates for climate groups and Regions for local biomes.
