Items Materials Armour values by type
Armour values by type
These are the material's armour values, before condition and other bonuses. Higher values mean stronger protection; they are not percentages of damage reduction. The default combat rules use these values when reducing physical damage. Shields have their own protection rules; see shields.
| Armour type | Leather | Fur | Chain | Iron | Steel | Silver | Elven | Dwarven | Mithril | Adamantium | Ebony | Orcish | Daedric |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard armour | 3 | — | 6 | 7 | 9 | 9 | 11 | 13 | 15 | 15 | 17 | 19 | 21 |
| Mail set | 3 | — | 5 | 6 | 8 | 8 | 9 | 11 | 13 | 13 | 15 | 17 | 18 |
| Leather / brigandine set | 3 | 5 | — | 5 | 7 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 11 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14 |
The mail set includes Hauberk, Chausses, Spaulders and Sollerets. The leather set includes Jerkin, Cuisse, Helmet, Boots, Gloves and Vambraces; its metal versions are brigandine. Their class restrictions follow their armour type, even when made of metal. See Armour and shields for slots and weights.
Armour type and material do not impose a spellcasting penalty. Enchantment capacity and any magical bonuses on a piece are separate from its physical protection.
